Plastics processor Wirthwein (Creglingen / Germany; www.wirthwein.de) said it has rented additional commercial space in the immediate vicinity of its two production facilities in Łódź / Poland. At the 6,000 m² complex, Wirthwein Polska plans to use 5,800 m² as production and storage space, with the rest designated for personnel and office space. Additional expansions have already been agreed as an option, the processor announced.

In future, Wirthwein wants to produce in Poland for all business segments, but as a first step, it will serve customers in the automotive, household appliance, sanitary and electrical industries. According to the company, the expansion will create around 35 additional jobs within a year. By 2027, the number of employees there is expected to increase to more than 110. The company’s third manufacturing facility at the Polish site is set to start series production in Q2 2022, following which installed capacity is to be expanded to more than 20 injection moulding machines by 2027.

With around 450 employees in Łódź, the German processor currently manufactures plastic components on more than 60 injection moulding machines, making the unit the largest subsidiary in the Wirthwein Group, which has a workforce of around 3,500 spread across 22 companies worldwide.

Last year, the pandemic dented Wirthwein’s business development, with group sales declining around 10%.
