Sales of white goods by Turkish manufacturers rose by 41% to approximately 17.43m units in the first half of the year, driven by a 47% rise in exports, according to national white goods manufacturers’ association Turkbesd (Istanbul; www.turkbesd.org). Domestic sales of white goods – covering the six main products of member companies – were 27% higher than in H1 2020, while production was up by 48%. The association now has 10 member companies.
Turkbesd president Can Dinçer said the sector performed well in H1 but from June it started to feel the high base effect and declining house sales in the domestic market. Domestic sales rose by just 5% in June, while exports rose by 29%. “In the coming period, the course of Covid-19 and its effects on the economy will be decisive in our sales,” he added. In Q1, white goods sales had risen by 29% (see Plasteurope.com of 24.06.2021).
Turkey is the world’s second-largest white goods producer after China, and the leading European manufacturer. Overall, production of plastic goods in the country hit USD 20.6 bn in the first half of 2021, which means an increase of almost 25% compared to the same period last year (see Plasteurope.com of 20.08.2021).
