The range of products manufactured by Weidmann Plastics Technology AG (CH-8640 Rapperswil; www.weidmann-plastics.com) covers injection-moulded components and subassemblies for the automotive segment, industrial systems, sensor technology, sanitary fittings and medical components. Weidmann regards itself as a specialist in multi-component injection moulding. For example, it manufactures decorative interior trim for the automotive industry from metal foil decorated plastic. The products can be supplied in any colour and with variable surface structures. Surface finish and design are also key points in the products for sanitary fittings. As far as sensor technology is concerned, the focus is on two-component silicone processing, surface technologies for operating elements and the two-component technology for dynamically loaded parts. In the field of medical technology, the company manufactures plastic parts with micro and nano-structures down to 5 nanometers.
Weidmann Plastics Technology has 115 injection moulding machines with a clamping force of 25 to 1,000 t, 50 of which are multi-component machines. This traditional company belongs to the Swiss Wicor Holding AG, which, together with the Swiss company Weidmann Electrical Technology, has annual sales of CHF 512m with a total workforce of 4,400. In the plastics technology division, the 600 employees account for CHF 183m. The company´s production sites include – apart from the headquarters – Bruwag AG (CH-7310 Bad Ragaz; www.bruwag.ch), Plasticos Brello S.A. (E-31620 Huarte-Pamplona; www.plasticos-brello.com) and a plant in Brazil. It also has “engineering bases” in France and the US.
