WEENER PLASTIC PACKAGING GROUP
Now 100% owner of Weener Empire Plastics in India
Following the purchase of the remaining shares in India's Weener Empire Plastics Ltd (WEPL; Mumbai) the Weener Plastic Packaging Group (Weener / Germany; www.wppg.de) has now strengthened its position internationally. With the deal reached, Weener – previously a long time minority shareholder in the enterprise – has gained seven production sites across the country. No financial details of the transaction, completed 21 December 2013, were provided by the packaging producer, which is located in Germany's northwestern coastal region.
"This acquisition is aligned to our strategy of enhancing our presence in the emerging markets," declared Roel Zeevat, CEO at Weener Plastic Packaging, adding, "WEPL has performed well in the past years and we have targeted to further add to this growth in the coming years." The group is looking to focus on organic growth through existing as well as new customers in the rapidly changing Indian market.
The Indian entity manufactures closures and containers for the personal care, food and pharmaceutical industries. The managing director, A. B. Gupta, and director, Abhinav Gupta, are continuing in their roles.
In 2013, Weener Packaging grew a little larger with the integration of the Dutch Plasticum Group – see Plasteurope.com of 24.06.2013. With the Indian company now under its fold, the 53-year-old company counts 31 production sites and 2,000 employees in 20 countries.
