WAVIN
New record set in 2004 / All key figures up / Good progress in central and eastern Europe
Wavin (NL-8000 AD Zwolle; www.wavin.com) lifted sales by 10% to EUR 1.03 bn in 2004 against 2003. The European market leader for plastics pipes reported a 12% rise in EBIT to EUR 71m and a net profit up 24% to EUR 47m. Demand in western Europe was stronger than expected, the company said, adding that growth in central and eastern Europe, at 29%, was particularly strong.
Wavin evidently has been able to exploit its size as a powerful market influence. Because of exploding raw material costs, the company said margins have been under pressure, necessitating price increases. In 2005, Wavin expects these trends to continue, with eastern Europe especially remaining a growth region. The pipe specialist is preparing for further polymer prices in the year´s first half. However, it said any reliable projection for the year ahead is difficult. All in all, results in 2005 are expected to rise again.
