New: Thinner but stronger PVC pipe
The PVC pipes producer Wavin BV (HQ: PO Box 173, NL-8000 AD Zwolle) is about to introduce a new technique for making thinner but stronger PVC pipes. The method involves the conventional process of extruding and cooling the pipe but adds an extra stage in which the pipe is stretched in 2 directions, creating a laminar structure. This increases the durability and rigidity of the product by 20-30%. The new pipe should come on the market in 1997 and will be used to transport drinking water at pressures higher than 8 bar.
