WAVIN
Expansion into Norway / Takeover of Icopal´s plastic pipe division / Complementary portfolio
The leading European producer of plastic pipe systems Wavin B.V. (NL-8000 AD Zwolle; www.wavin.com) is taking its expansion drive to Scandinavia with the acquisition of the Norwegian pipe division of Icopal A/S (DK-2730 Herlev; www.icopal.com). This company is a leading Scandinavian manufacturer of plastic PE or PVC pipes for sewage and water systems, as well as gas pipes and cable ducts. For the present, Wavin will continue Icopal´s “Arot” brand.
Over the past ten years, Wavin has taken over pipe producers in 13 countries, mainly in eastern Europe. With the latest acquisition – largest in its history – the Dutch group, now active in 23 European countries, said it will reinforce its position in Scandinavia and Poland as well as expanding its production facilities. Wavin said the Icopal pipe division, which has annual sales of EUR 4m and a workforce of 160, is profitable and has a portfolio complementing its own. After exiting the pipe business, Icopal will focus on roofing activities.
