Laser-perforated snack bag uses MDO PE
In cooperation with German packaging machine manufacturer Rovema (Fernwald; www.rovema.com), Finnish film producer Walki (Espoo; www.walki.com) has developed a new bag concept for the packaging of nuts, chocolate, dried fruits, and other snacks.

The packaging material used is a laminate of machine-direction oreiented (MDO) polyethylene film in combination with an LDPE-based film newly developed by Walki. Classified as a mono-material solution, the packaging can be easily recycled in standard plastic streams, the companies said.

With the help of a laser perforation, the bag can be opened from the side. Through a “controlled weakening of the laminate”, the film is thin enough at this point to allow easy opening of the bag but still thick enough to protect the contents.
