On 13 November the utility vehicle division of Volkswagen laid the cornerstone of the new plant it is building in Wrzesnia / Poland, near Poznan. The facility is scheduled to begin assembling the successor of the VW "Crafter" in H2 2016. The 220 ha site located about 50 km east of Poznan will be capable of producing up to 100,000 vehicles a year, and will include a pain shop, body construction, assembly as well as logistical operations.
The investment will create up to 3,000 new jobs, and will also require additional capacities from local OEMs. VW currently sources about 40% of the parts for its existing utility vehicle plant in Poznan, which manufactures the “Caddy” and “Trasporter” models, from Polish companies.
