Extender resin and impact modifier improve PVC processing
PVC manufacturer Vinnolit (Ismaning / Germany; www.vinnolit.de) has developed a new generation of homopolymeric extender resins for PVC plastisol applications and an additive for use in thermoplastic PVC processing to prevent crease whitening. The company said that due to a new polymerisation technology, “EXT” extender resins achieve a much stronger viscosity-reducing effect on the plastisol than conventional extender resins. They therefore require lower amounts of viscosity modifiers and plasticisers in the formulation, reducing the migration of plasticisers and release of volatile organic compounds (VOC).

The acrylic impact modifier “K 725 F” prevents the formation of white discoloration in areas of high mechanical stress, so-called crease-whitening, Vinnolit said. The additive is suitable for producing impact modified, coloured or opaque films, sheets and technical profiles for exterior and interior applications. The company will display both products at “K 2010” (www.k-online.de) in Düsseldorf / Germany later this month.
