Brazilian petrochemicals producer Videolar-Innova (Triunfo; www.innova.ind.br) plans to bring on stream a 24,000 t/y EPS plant at its headquarters in Triunfo in mid-2016. The investment cost of the facility, which will use the extruder-based melt impregnation technology of Sulzer Chemtech (Winterthur / Switzerland; www.sulzer.com), was not disclosed. Output of the plant is to go towards meeting Latin American demand for insulation material, the Swiss company said. Videolar-Innova already operates both styrene and PS plants in Triunfo.
The company, which has been operating as Videolar-Innova since 1 October this year, was founded when Brazilian PS producer Videolar (Barueri; www.videolar.com.br/ingles) acquired competitor Innova last year (see Plasteurope.com of 28.11.2014). A look at Plasteurope.com’s Polyglobe capacity database (www.polyglobe.net) shows that installed EPS capacities in Brazil currently amount to about 80,000 t/y. The most important manufacturer is BASF Brasil (São Paulo; www.basf.com.br).
