Unrest at Italian film manufacturer / Postponed job cuts seem imminent
Biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films and adhesive tapes manufacturer Vibac Group (Ticineto, Italy; www.vibac.it/en) is planning massive job cuts at its plant in Termoli, Italy, on the Adriatic coast at the same latitude as Rome. Italian media had reported at the beginning of last year that 126 of a total of 142 jobs were to be cut at the site. However, a redundancy protection fund negotiated with the trade unions suspended the implementation of the measure until 10 July 2024.

According to media reports, 90 employees are to be made redundant after this deadline. The reasons given are the ongoing economic difficulties and the further increase in production costs. According to reports, Vibac currently employs more than 530 people in Italy and other locations in Serbia and Canada.

The company has not commented yet on the media reports. The group’s annual turnover was recently reported at EUR 300 mn. The officially communicated total production capacity in 2020 was 120,000 t/y.
