VELOX
Distributing Topas' COCs in Scandinavia
Velox (Hamburg / Germany; www.velox.com) on 1 April 2016 started distributing Topas Advanced Polymers’ (TAP, Frankfurt / Germany; www.topas.com) “Topas” cyclic olefin copolymers (COCs) and “Topasblend” ranges in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.
Unlike the semi-crystalline polyolefins PE and PP, Topas’ COCs are amorphous, transparent copolymers characterised by low density, high transparency, high water vapour barrier properties, low water absorption, high rigidity and strength as well as hardness, biocompatibility and good resistance to acids and alkalis, Velox said. Key applications include pharmaceutical packaging, medical devices and diagnostic disposables.
In February, A. Schulman (Akron, Ohio / USA; www.aschulman.com) also signed an agreement with Topas and is now selling the latter’s COCs in EMEA (see Plasteurope.com of 24.02.2016).
