UPONOR
Closure of Spanish PEX pipe plant to result in fewer redundancies than originally feared / Layoffs to be made by end-February
Shortly before Christmas last year, Uponor (Vantaa / Finland; www.uponor.com) completed the employee negotiations concerning the closure of its PEX pipe plant in Mostoles / Spain (for previous coverage, see Plasteurope.com of 25.11.2016). The company said the decision to relocate this particular production from Spain to Sweden will result in fewer job cuts than initially feared. Under the agreement reached by its Uponor Hispania subsidiary, up to 50 positions will be made redundant, less than the 56 originally expected. Most of the lay-offs will be made by the end of February this year.
The decision to relocate PEX pipe production to Virsbo / Sweden is part of the company’s transformation programme, and will allow it to be closer to its main end markets. The move does not affect the logistics and sales & marketing operations in Spain.
