UPONOR
Restructuring will cost up to 40 jobs in infrastructure solutions business / Danish production plant to close
Uponor (Vantaa / Finland; www.uponor.com) has begun employee consultation to cut up to 40 jobs in its infrastructure solutions unit in the Nordic countries as it aims to improve the performance of the business. The company plans to concentrate production in the business at Fristad / Sweden and Nastola / Finland. Manufacture will cease at the company’s Hadsund / Denmark site and production will be moved to Fristad. The full benefits of the restructuring are expected to be realised in 2011. The infrastructure solutions operations will be integrated into Uponor's Europe-wide enterprise resource planning (ERP) system in 2010.
Two further, smaller production units for infrastructure solutions are planned to remain. A facility in Forssa / Finland will specialise in PE pressure pipe manufacture, while the subsidiary in Virrat / Finland will continue to operate under its own brand.
The job reductions will mainly affect the Hadsund site as a result of its planned closure. Sales and marketing and other support functions will remain in order to serve the local Danish customers. The Hadsund unit is one of the oldest in Uponor, acquired in 1983.
