UPM (Helsinki / Finland; www.upm-kymmene.com) has developed a composite made from virgin wood fibres and clean plastic polymers for both industrial and consumer applications. The composite is produced in three grades with the proportion of wood fibres varying between 20% and 60% depending on the end-use. Grade G is suitable for general end-use, including everyday goods, toys and tableware, S is developed for special surfaces such as furniture and T is produced for technical applications including electronics.
The material, which is produced in Lahti / Finland and is available in granular form, can be dyed and moulded and products containing the composite are of consistent quality, odourless and safe, UPM said.
