The Swedish city of Landskrona is the chosen production site for the electric city car “Uniti”. This was recently decided by the start-up of the same name, Uniti (www.uniti.earth), which was founded in 2016. Founder and CEO Lewis Horne wants to launch the vehicle, with an essentially carbon fibre-reinforced plastics (CRP) chassis, on 7 December 2017 at its headquarters in Lund / Sweden. Fully automated production is scheduled to start at the beginning of 2018, with the prospect of first deliveries in 2019.
For the electric car, Uniti has generated funds of approximately EUR 1.2m through crowdfunding. More than 1,000 people have invested in and 915 have pre-ordered the vehicle, which will cost around EUR 20,000 and come with two to four seats, depending on the model. Additionally, Uniti has Siemens and industrial robot giant Kuka as its key partners.

This seems to at least support the theory that the entry barrier to electric vehicle production has been significantly lowered in comparison to traditional motor vehicles (see Plasteurope.com of 06.10.2017).
A focus on lightweight construction is not Uniti’s only approach. The company also markets its vehicle with augmented reality displays and 100% electric charging. The e-car is planned to have a range of 300 km and a top speed of 120 km/h. According to the manufacturer, the "Combined Charging System" (CCS) will allow charging up to 80% battery capacity in less than 15 minutes.
