Family-owned United Caps (Wiltz / Luxembourg; www.unitedcaps.com) is collaborating with Brazilian petrochemical company Braskem (Sao Paulo; www.braskem.com) to widen its caps and closures product portfolio by making “Greener” sugar cane-sourced plastic articles.
United Caps is initially launching two standard closures including “Victoria”, a 30/25 screw closure designed for still drinks, and “Proflatseal”, ideal for dairy products and still drinks, both pressurised and non-pressurised.
The Greener items use as their basis Braskem’s “I’m Green” PE, a plastic produced from sugar cane-derived ethanol. According to United Caps, the bio-sourced plastic has the same characteristic, quality and properties as conventional polyethylene based on fossils.
United Caps said it has experienced growth in the “high single digits” since its 2015 rebranding, with a “significant percentage” of production for bespoke products.
