Uniloy Milacron (Magenta / Italy; www.uniloymilacron.com) and co-injection systems supplier Kortec (Ipswich, Massachusetts / USA; www.kortec.com) have completed the integration of hardware and software to produce three-layer blow moulded polycarbonate containers. Applications are seen in medicine and pharmaceuticals, to replace traditional thick-wall glass containers. One of the first medical applications is for a diagnostic container designed to withstand difficult sterilisation processes, including steam and autoclaving, while offering good clarity, bottle strength and gas barrier properties. The companies envisage further applications in the cosmetic and food industries.
