Fire erupts at Spanish injection moulder / Storage hall completely destroyed / No injuries
A fire erupted in one of the three halls of Spanish plastics processor Ubiplast (Burgos; www.ubiplast.es) in the night from 25-26 April, completely destroying the 1,400 m2 storage for plastic resins, local media report. The fire brigade needed several hours to put out the fire, which kept flaring up again. No one was hurt by the blaze and the extent of the damage still remains unclear although reports indicate that there was significant destruction.
Part of a conglomerate, Ubiplast is a sister company of fellow injection moulders Plaiber (Bergara) and Icaplast (Burgos), as well as component assembler UniManufacturados and irrigation specialist Faber. The five group members employ some 130 workers and last generated sales of EUR 15m. The group says it managed to grow domestic sales by 50% over the past five years, while revenues from exports have tripled. Although automotive is the core activity, the group also produces technical parts and assembly sets for the E&E, white goods, household and leisure sectors. Key customers include Magna and Bosch as well as Ficosa International (Barcelona / Spain; www.ficosa.com) and Grupo Antolin (Burgos; www.grupoantolin.es).
