PCD capacity in Castellón to double
The Speciality Chemicals & Products division of UBE (Tokyo / Japan; www.ube.com) plans to double capacity for polycarbonate diol (PCD) at its facility in Castellón / Spain to some 6,000 t/y by January 2012. The Japanese group said the addition would create the world's largest PCD manufacturer. UBE manufactures PCD in Spain and Japan.
PCD is used to manufacture PU systems and as PU dispersions in water-based colours and finishes. Basic PCD feedstocks include 1.6 hexandiol and dimethylcarbonate (DMC), both also manufactured by UBE.
