French start-up entrepreneur plans comeback for plastic containers in Europe / President Macron offers congratulations
— By Plasteurope.com staff —

Is the party back on? Almost three months after the insolvent manufacturer of household products Tupperware Brands (Orlando, Florida, USA; www.tupperware.com) officially ceased its business operations in Europe, a French entrepreneur and start-up investor has revealed plans to revive the cult brand. On his LinkedIn account, Cédric Meston announced his intention to offer the once-popular household goods again in France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, and Poland. The first products are expected to be in stores as early as April, writes Meston, who previously worked for four years as a consultant at McKinsey.

This potential revival comes on the heels of Tupperware’s recent financial struggles. In October 2024, Plasteurope.com reported that the company was set to be taken over by its main creditors and hedge funds, Stonehill Capital Management Partners and Alden Global Capital, with plans to reduce its debt. Only a month prior, the company had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the US state of Delaware – a move the company emphasised as voluntary.

Tupperware once enjoyed strong performance in Europe, with the favourable exchange rate of the euro boosting sales by 6% in 2003, according to a past Plasteurope.com story. However, by 2017, the company began facing challenges, leading to the decision to close its injection moulding plant in Tours, France, due to profitability concerns.

While the future of the iconic brand remains to be seen, the reactions to Meston’s social media post were enthusiastic, with nearly 4,000 likes and over 500 comments. Even French President Emmanuel Macron commented, saying, “So many French and other Europeans have a Tupperware container in their cupboard... and in their hearts! Congratulations on this new adventure. May this relaunch be a symbol of innovation and success.”

Despite the excitement around Meston’s announcement, key details are still unclear, including where the new products will come from. According to media reports, Meston also did not disclose how the distribution will be organised, or whether it will be possible to excite the previous 20,000 Tupperware consultants across the five countries for the project. As of now, Tupperware France does not have a website, and the German corporate website, which had announced the cessation of operations in Germany at the end of January 2025, was unavailable at press time.
