Tupperware Brands (Orlando, Florida / USA; www.tupperware.com) has reported 2007 operating profits of USD 194m (EUR 128m), up from USD 152m in 2006, due primarily to higher volume sales, improved capacity utilisation and the strength of the euro, Australian dollar and Russian rouble. Currency effects also helped increase sales by 14% to a new record of just below USD 2 bn. In local currency sales grew 9%.

The core Tupperware segment (household products) reported around 12.5m “Tupperware parties” worldwide and increased sales 14% to USD 1.3 bn. The international beauty segment lifted sales 12% to USD 711m. The group had around 12,800 employees worldwide in 2007, including 900 in the US.

Business was particularly good in the emerging markets, where sales increased by 21%. The largest growth was in the Asia-Pacific region, where sales rose by 22% to USD 252m. However, North America remains the largest market, accounting for 38% of total sales. Here, sales climbed 11% to USD 751.3m. European sales were up 12% at USD 658.2m.

The company is optimistic about the 2008 outlook and in the first six months sales rose 19% year-on-year to USD 1.2bn with the strongest performance coming from Europe and Asia-Pacific, both of which reported 24% growth. Tupperware is forecasting a 14-16% improvement in sales over the full year, with growth of 15-17% in its Tupperware segment and 12-14% in the beauty segment.
