UK laminates and machined components manufacturer Tufnol (GB-Birmingham B42 2TB; www.tufnol.com) has been bought by its management team. The business went into receivership in September, but has now been restructured and renamed Tufnol Composites. More than 70 jobs have been saved from an original workforce in excess of 100. The new company is retaining the Scottish depot in East Kilbride.
Founded more than 70 years ago, Tufnol specialises in the production and distribution of high pressure laminates based on resin impregnation of paper or cloth. The laminates are sold as sheet and stock shapes of rod and tube. Tufnol has one of Europe´s largest machining centres for the production of both small and large-scale components such as bearings and gears in a range of materials from nylons and PP to acrylics and PTFE. Key markets are aerospace, electronics and offshore installations. The original company underwent a management buyout in 2000.
