TRIOWORLD
PE recyclate film project with Lidl / Sterilisation research with Swedish Environmental Institute
Swedish polyethylene film producer Trioworld (Smålandsstenar; www.trioworld.com) has teamed up with Lidl Sweden, part of German supermarket chain Lidl (Neckarsulm; www.lidl.com), to launch what the partners claim to be the first post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic film approved for frozen food packaging.

The packaging is said to have passed a series of tests required by the European Regulations for Food Contact Material. It is 100% recyclable and made of 30% recycled PCR.

Trioworld is also collaborating with the IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute (Stockholm; www.ivl.se) to develop methods to properly sterilise plastics in the recycling process. The partners seek to find methods for the safe recycling of classified healthcare plastics waste.

The project will work with LDPE from single-use aprons and is expected to build further on work carried out by Trioworld in a pilot project in Stockholm.
