In April 2023, Trinseo (Berwyn, Pennsylvania, USA; www.trinseo.com) inaugurated a pilot plant for the recycling of polycarbonate at its Terneuzen site in the Netherlands. According to the plastics company, the plant is to be dedicated to “dissolution recycling” – a physical process in which the polymers, using solvents, are extracted from PC-containing mixed waste from various industries, such as automotive or consumer electronics, and then recycled. No pre-treatment is necessary.
At the same time, Trinseo announced the completion of the sale of its PMMA sheet production in Mexico. For an undisclosed amount Plaskolite (Columbus, Ohio, USA; www.plaskolite.com) took over the plant in Matamoros.
