French energy and petrochemical conglomerate TotalEnergies (Paris; www.totalenergies.com) has signed a series of corporate power purchase agreements to supply renewable electricity for a 20-year period to South African chemicals giant Sasol (Johannesburg; www.sasol.com) and the Large Industries South Africa unit of Air Liquide (Paris; www.airliquide.com).
TotalEnergies plans to develop a 120 MW solar plant and a 140 MW windfarm in the Northern Cape province to supply around 850 GWh of electricity per year to the Sasol’s Secunda site, where Air Liquide operates the biggest oxygen production site in the world.
The two projects are expected to be operational in 2025.
