French petrochemical company TotalEnergies (Paris; www.totalenergies.com) said it will provide RE:clic polymers derived from recycled and bio-feedstocks to Portuguese converter Intraplás (Rebordões; www.intraplas.pt), which plans to use the materials for low-carbon, fossil-free, sustainable food packaging.
The resins are sourced from feedstocks certified under ISCC Plus, which uses a mass balance approach. Other materials in the portfolio include plastics from mechanically recycled from post-consumer and post-industrial waste, and polymers made from hard-to-recycle plastics that have been converted into circular feedstock (see Plasteurope.com of 26.10.2022). The range is said to exhibit virgin-like properties suitable for demanding high-end applications while offering significantly reducing carbon emissions.
Production at Intraplás is also ISCC Plus certified, facilitating traceability from the material production through to the final application.
TotalEnergies and Intraplás collaborated previously on a pilot project to use certified, chemically recycled polystyrene in yogurt cups (see Plasteurope.com of 11.12.2020).
