Jindal to buy PP made from post-consumer waste / Recyclate to be used for sustainable films
French energy and petrochemicals giant TotalEnergies (Paris; www.totalenergies.com), formerly known as Total, said it is supporting the goal of Indian films giant Jindal (New Delhi; www.jindalfilms.com) to produce more sustainable flexible food packaging and labels.

TotalEnergies plans to supply Jindal with “Certified Circular Polypropylene” made from a recycled feedstock called “Tacoil”, the result of reclaiming post-consumer plastics. Jindal will then convert the resin into certified sustainable biaxially oriented PP (BOPP) films.

The Tacoil used to make the PP is to come from thermal anaerobic conversion (TAC) technology patented by UK chemical recycling company Plastic Energy (London; www.plasticenergy.com). TotalEnergies is set to start-up its Granpuits recycling plant in France, said to be the first TAC plant in the country.

The recycling facility, part of the company’s “zero-crude platform”, is to have a capacity for 15,000 t/y of plastic waste (see Plasteurope.com of 30.09.2020).
