TORAY
"Ecodear" PLA blends based on copolymers
Chemicals specialist Toray (Tokyo / Japan; www.toray.com) is using proprietary nano-alloy technology to produce improved PLA materials with properties similar to ABS. The technology comprises blending styrene copolymers (Toray has not given further details) with 30% PLA. Standard halogen-free, flame-retardant and transparent grades are available under the "Ecodear" brand name. In Germany they are distributed by Nordmann, Rassmann (NRC, Hamburg; www.nrc.de).
