Introducing “Torayfan PC5” metallised BOPP film for food wrapping / Extremely high oxygen and moisture barrier
Toray Plastics America (TPA, North Kingstown, Rhode Island / USA; www.toraytpa.com) has introduced a new metallised BOPP film that can be used on tri-laminations, as a foil replacement or as an overwrap lamination or wrapper. An ultra-high oxygen- and moisture-barrier film, “Torayfan PC5” is said to be a “durable, cost-effective replacement for foil in a typical paper/PE/foil/PE packaging structure.” The North American subsidiary of Japanese chemicals and plastics giant Toray (Tokyo; www.toray.com) also said the material is suited for use as the inner barrier web of a tri-lamination in gas-flushed stand-up or flat pouches. Other uses include as a cold-seal layer and as part of a lamination for high-quality confectionary wrappers and bakery overwraps.

The company added that advanced PC5 metallised OPP film has an ultra-high barrier layer resistant to crazing on one side, while the other side is corona treated for bond strength in cold-seal adhesive applications as well as extrusion and adhesive 3-ply laminations. These properties allow food packaged in the film to stay fresh throughout its shelf life. TPA said its PC5 OPP film is available in 60 gauge and designed for HFFS and VFFS packaging equipment.
