FDA compliancy across "LumiLid" film portfolio / Providing broader product design
Toray Plastics America (TPA, North Kingston, Rhode Island / USA; www.toraytpa.com) has recently announced that its entire line of "LumiLid" films are now FDA-compliant for use with oven temperatures of up to 400°F (roughly 204°C) and 30 minutes of heating. The company says end users and converters benefit from the product enhancement when it comes to lidded refrigerated and frozen side dishes and entrees that require high heat for initial cooking or reheating.

The brand of films incorporate speciality performance film and sealant layers delivering specified performance and seal-strength properties. The company adds that with an “excellent” oxygen barrier and low seal initiation temperature (SIT) as well as an environment-friendly, solvent-free formulation, customers are able to experience a “pure, fresh” food flavour.
According to Milan Moscaritolo, a company senior director of sales, compliancy with the FDA is a “game changer giving manufacturers more options for product design and greater latitude in how they deliver their product to consumers.”
Founded in 1985, TPA is a subsidiary of Japan’s Toray Industries (Tokyo; www.toray.com) and specialises in the manufacture of polyester, polypropylene, bio-based and metallised films for flexible and rigid packaging, lidding, graphic as well as industrial and optical applications.
