New protective film plant in Taiwan / Output geared towards meeting regional demand
In an effort to meet the rising regional demand for surface protection film (see also Plasteurope.com of 01.04.2011), Toray Advanced Film (TAF, Tokyo / Japan; www.toray-taf.co.jp/en) has touted plans to set up a company in Taiwan to manufacture and sell its “Toretec” PE-based self-adhesive protective film, used in the manufacture of LCDs.
The new plant, Toray Advanced Film Kaohsiung, is to be set up in May, with plans for it to become operational in January 2013. Located in the Southern Taiwan Science Park in Kaohsiung, this is the first time that the films division of Toray Industries (Tokyo / Japan; www.tora.com) will produce “Toretec” film abroad. The new facility’s nameplate capacity is to be ramped up successively until it reaches 17,000 t/y, TAF said. Toray plans to further expand its film business and hopes to use the new plant as a beachhead for its business in Asia.
