Ticona (Sulzbach / Germany; www.ticona.com) has launched two new “Thermx” polycyclohexylene-dimethylene terephthalate (PCT) grades suitable for use in light-emitting diode (LED) packages for display backlight and general lighting. The Thermx LED 0201 and Thermx LED 0201S fibre-filled PCT compounds meet the challenging requirements of LED reflectors, especially for high brightness, medium-power LEDs, said Ruth Castillo, global business director for Thermx PCT and “Vectra” / “Zenite” LCP.

“These super-white Thermx PCT LED grades provide customers with much better reflectance stability than PA 9T and PA 6T nylons at high temperature,” she said. “Now, they can mould reflectors with excellent surface characteristics that maintain UV and colour stability, providing superior long-term performance.”

Properties of the new grades include high initial reflectance, high reflectance stability under heat and light, excellent silicone adhesion and processability and low moisture absorption, Ticona said. Thermx LED 0201 is suitable for cost-effective LED lighting, while Thermx LED 0201S is suitable for more demanding applications such as flat panel screens.
