THE SIXTH ELEMENT
Office in Germany opened to serve EMEA graphene markets / First step to expand international network / Additional capacity being installed in China
The Sixth Element (Changzhou) Materials Technology Company (T6E, Changzhou, Jiangsu / China; www.thesixthelement.com.cn), a producer of graphene and graphene oxide, has opened an office in Germany, headed by Bernhard Münzing as sales director.
In an interview with publication Graphene-Info, Münzing discusses T6E’s plans and the role of the new office, which will focus on markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). The Chinese producer aims to strengthen its international presence as it continues to develop new applications for graphene materials, which are used to enhance the electronic, mechanical and thermal properties of plastics, fibres, rubber, composites, coatings, adhesives and batteries.
T6E’s plant in Changzhou currently produces 55 t/y of graphene, and 110 t/y of graphene oxide. A second production line is close to coming on stream, which will take total capacity to 125 t/y of graphene and 250 t/y of graphene oxide. The facility offers various grades of graphene oxide, including water-based suspension, as well as different grades of graphene specifically designed for varying applications, and graphene suspensions.
Customers are currently testing prototypes of graphene material for batteries and T6E expects new products will be launched in 2017.
In December 2015, T6E launched a new graphene-zinc anti-corrosion primer based on patented technology. There is now one licensee using the process and offering the primer to the market. Münzing said T6E will further develop applications and offer the know-how together with the appropriate type of graphene to customers.
T6E believes that as it continues to develop applications for customers, they will in turn buy more graphene, which will accelerate market growth.
Münzing said the EMEA chemical industry is at the forefront of new developments in materials and life science with a lot of “hidden world champions”. He stated that the task of the European office was to set up business relationships and sales with these champions, adding that it was the first step in establishing a worldwide sales and distribution network within the coming years.
