Family-owned business Teufelberger (Wels, Austria; www.teufelberger.com) has announced plans to work with RDG (Mühlheim am Inn, Austria; www.rdg-recyclinggroup.com) to recycle its plastic strapping. The group of companies specialises in plastics recycling and plans to recycle around 7,000 t in the coming year, an RDG spokesperson told Plasteurope.com.

Teufelberger collects the used PET and polypropylene strapping from Austrian customers through various partners – this is not production waste. The material is then sorted by RDG, processed into regrind or granulate, and made available to Teufelberger again for the production of new strapping.

RDG recently expanded its capacities at Mühlheim am Inn. The Austrian plastics recycler processes both production and industrial waste and, with a capacity of 16,000 t/y, recycles not only plastics but also metal-plastic composites. RDG currently employs 50.

Teufelberger strengthened its position in Eastern Europe two years ago with the acquisition of a Polish strapping manufacturer. In addition to PET and PP strapping for transport protection, the company, managed by CEO Florian Teufelberger, also produces steel cables for cable cars and cranes as well as high-strength fibre ropes made of polyethylene – for climbing applications, among other things. With around 1,500 employees at 14 locations worldwide, Teufelberger recently generated sales of EUR 350 mn.
