Austrian packaging specialist acquires plastic strapping division of Poland's Maillis Plastics Solutions

For an undisclosed sum, Teufelberger (Wels, Austria; www.teufelberger.com) has acquired the plastic strapping division of Maillis Plastics Solutions (MPS, Karczew, Poland) with effect from 1 April 2022. MPS, an independent subsidiary of Maillis Group (Luxembourg; www.maillis.com), which specialises in machinery and equipment for transport packaging solutions, was previously owned by private equity company H.I.G. Capital.
Simultaneously with this transaction, the second MPS division, which specialises in the production of stretch film, has been taken over by US film manufacturer, Sigma Plastics (Pompano Beach, Florida; www.sigmaplasticsgroup.com). Here as well, no financial details of the transaction were disclosed. The US film extrusion group has more than 42 production facilities worldwide. The MPS site in Karczew near Warsaw, with around 230 employees, will continue to be run jointly with Teufelberger.
With the new site in Poland, Teufelberger said the company was creating the necessary capacities to continue growing in the field of plastic strapping. Apart from PET and polypropylene straps for transport packaging, the family-owned company, headed by CEO Florian Teufelberger, also produces steel cables for cable railways and cranes as well as synthetic fibre cables. Teufelberger most recently reportedly generated sales of EUR 290 mn with a global workforce of 1,500.
