Tetra Pak (Lausanne, Switzerland; www.tetrapak.com) and Elvir, a subsidiary of Savencia Fromage & Dairy (Viroflay, France; www.savencia-fromagedairy.com), are partnering up to become the first carton packaging players in the food and beverage industry to launch a cap using certified recycled polymers.
Elvir’s Elle & Vire brand uses HeliCap23, a one-step resealable screwcap made at Tetra Pak’s Châteaubriant plant in Loire-Atlantique, France – a site being boosted with a EUR 100 mn investment to accelerate the transition to tethered caps production (see Plasteurope.com of 13.07.2021).
HeliCap23 features a visible tamper evidence ring to provide reassurance that the product has not been opened before. Tetra Pak said the new caps using “attributed recycled polymers” are manufactured under a method that “means that the plastics are made of a mix of recycled and non-recycled materials, with the corresponding mass of recycled materials tracked throughout the Tetra Pak supply chain”. This is verified by a third-party auditor according to the RSB Chain of Custody Procedure, which forms part of the RSB Advanced Products certification.
