Swiss packaging giant Tetra Pak (Lausanne; www.tetrapak.com) expects to deliver more than 100m of its bio-based “Tetra Rex” beverage cartons this year. The company said the product, which it launched in January 2015 – see Plasteurope.com of 20.10.2014, has gained popularity among consumers across Finland, Sweden and Norway.
Charles Brand, executive vice president for product management and commercial operations at Tetra Pak, said the success of Tetra Rex in its first year is a significant milestone in the company’s long-term ambition to provide 100% renewable packaging across its product portfolio. “We are proud to be the first company to deliver a package made entirely from plant-based materials,” he said. “Every package is traceable to its origin, helping customers to enhance their brand and communicate with consumers.” Tetra Pak uses Braskem's sugarcane-based plastics for the beverage cartons.
