Romanian PVC profiles and compounds producer more than doubles net profits in H1 2014 / Investing in capacity increase, new machinery
Romanian construction specialist TeraPlast (Bistrita-Nasaud; www.teraplast.ro) posted a net profit of LEI 1.53m (EUR 350,000) in H1 2014, up from LEI 570,000 (EUR 130,000) in the same period last year. Turnover was down slightly, at EUR 34.4m (H1 2013: EUR 23.7m) as a result of declines in its end markets as well as unstable weather conditions, which delayed several construction projects, the company said. “Despite the unfavourable context of the markets”, sales were similar to H1 2013, group CEO Traian Simion said.
Teraplast continued on its modernisation track in 2014, investing a total of EUR 850,000 in H1 this year. Most of the money went towards its Installations & Decorations business, raising its products portfolio and replacing certain machinery. Looking towards the second half of this year, the company plans to invest another EUR 480,000 in capacity increases, component replacements as well as a renovation of its regional warehouse, among others.
Teraplast claims to be one of Romania’s leading suppliers to the construction, installation and decoration markets. It is comprised of four businesses: Installations & Decorations, PVC Profiles, PVC Compounds and Thermo-Insulating Joinery. According to company figures, it holds a 42% share of the country’s PVC pipes market and also controls 31% of each the domestic PVC compounds and PVC panels markets. In addition, Teraplast purports to be Romania’s second largest PP pipe producer, holding a share of 30% of the domestic market.
Over the past five years, Teraplast has invested more than EUR 26m to relocate its production capacities from Bistrita to the nearby industrial park, where it operates on an area of more than 13,000 m².
