Teknor Apex (Pawtucket, Rhode Island / USA; www.teknorapex.com) is making its high performance engineering thermoplastic (ETP) products available worldwide. The custom compounder has renamed its PA segment the ETP division, and said the new division will supply a broad range of technologies developed in Europe but previously not widely available in the Americas or Asia.
The new ETP portfolio includes products from PTS Plastic-Technologie-Service (Adelshofen-Tauberzell / Germany; www.pts-marketing.de), which Teknor Apex acquired last year (see Plasteurope.com of 05.04.2016). The first ETP products that Teknor Apex will introduce are “Creamid” ultra-high performance glass fibre-reinforced PAs, which will be manufactured in the USA as well as in Europe. Michael Roberts, vice president in charge of the ETP division, said these compounds will offer designers and processors enhanced capabilities for metal-replacement and other high-specification applications. Compared with standard glass-filled PAs, Creamid compounds provide substantial improvements in physical properties, surface appearance and mouldability, he said. “These unique PA materials deliver processing and physical properties that are superior to anything else currently available on a global scale, and dramatically better than typical PA 6.6 compounded materials,” he added.
Next, Teknor Apex said it will introduce other PTS-developed engineering materials, including “Duramid” PAs, which exhibit improvements over Creamid products, and blends based on other resins and specialised formulations.
“By combining unique technologies developed by PTS with those that we have long employed for PA and other compounds, Teknor Apex is creating a global source of high-performance materials for automotive, electrical, military and other demanding markets,” said Roberts. The company manufactures "Chemlon" PA compounds in the USA and Singapore.
Other PTS-developed ETP compounds include several types of PA, plus PBT, PC and PC/ABS blends, Teknor Apex said. In addition, the PTS business manufactures a wide range of TPEs including block copolymers, TPVs and polymer blends. Its PTS plant is located in Steinsfeld / Germany.
