TEKNOR APEX
Low temperature impact strength of PA compound increased by 50%
Custom compounder Teknor Apex (Pawtucket, Rhode Island / USA; www.teknorapex.com) has increased the low-temperature impact strength of a standard toughened PA 6.6 compound, providing improved cold weather performance for injection moulded applications including fasteners, fuel can nozzles, cable ties, hinges and sports equipment.
The company said that “Chemlon” 109 HBK778 compound exhibits 50% greater notched Izod impact strength at -40°C than its standard Chemlon 109 product, a toughened PA 6.6 compound. At -10°C, it still provides nearly as much impact resistance as it exhibits at room temperature, whereas the standard product had seen a fall of 75%. Good flow properties make Chemlon 109 HBK778 suitable for intricate parts such as clips and fasteners, where the flexural strength of the material enables it to withstand the stresses of assembly and end use, the company added.
