US injection moulding firm Technimark (Asheboro, North Carolina; www.technimark.com) said it has increased operations at its site in Longford, Ireland with more than 4,600 m² in further floorspace, a move that doubled the size of the plant.

The company said it would invest EUR 26 mn to boost the facility’s medical manufacturing capacity with additions such as precision injection moulding, value-added assembly, finished device assembly, and contract manufacturing. The US company, which is backed by compatriot investment firm Pritzker Private Capital (Chicago, Illinois; www.ppcpartners.com), purchased the Irish operations formerly known as Tool & Plastic Industries in 2020 (see Plasteurope.com of 21.07.2020).

Along with the Irish expansion, Technimark said it recently acquired a nearly 19,000 m² “medical facility” adjacent to its US headquarters that includes Class 7 and Class 8 clean rooms, and it will be used for medical manufacturing and logistics. The processor noted that major expansions are also underway at facilities in the UK , Germany, and China to support the medical market.

Technimark, which currently serves customers worldwide from 13 sites in North America, Europe, and Asia, said Ireland is experiencing pronounced demand in the medical technology market.

“We’ve seen tremendous growth in our medical business globally, and our robust pipeline of new contracts from our strategic customers and prospects is driving the need for expansions,” CCO Kris Peavy said.

The Irish project is to also include Technimark’s first European Innovation Centre, which will incorporate office space to house designers and engineers and a complete production lab for prototype manufacturing.
