TAGHLEEF INDUSTRIES
BOPP expansion in Egypt and Hungary / Growth for the world's No. 2 producer / 5-layer capacity for IML
UAE-based Taghleef Industries (Dubai; www.ti-films.com), the world’s second-largest producer of BOPP, has begun an upgrade involving primarily a retrofitting at its Hungarian plant in Tiszaujvaros with the goal of becoming the European leader in 5-layer film capacity, which is often utilised in in-mould labelling (IML). The upgraded line is expected to be ready for start-up on 1 June.
In addition, with an aim of surpassing global leader Jindal Poly Films (New Delhi / India; www.jindalpoly.com), the company also commissioned a new line with a capacity of 20,000 t/y in Cairo, Egypt at the end of 2013. The Indian entity became the global leader when it acquired ExxonMobil Chemical Films in July 2013 after inking the deal with the US company in late 2012 – see Plasteurope.com of 30.10.2012. The Indians have an overall capacity for all BOPP types of approximately 445,000 t/y. The company also has an installed capacity of 127,000 t/y of BOPET.
Taghleef currently has a global nominal capacity at its eight film production sites for BOPP, CPP and BOPLA of 385,000 t/y.
