Films based on “Ingeo” PLA developed / Production upgrade in Italy
BOPP films producer Taghleef Industries (Ti, Dubai / UAE; www.ti-films.com) is introducing a range of bio-based films made from PLA manufactured by NatureWorks (Minnetonka, Minnesota / USA; www.natureworksllc.com).
Valerio Garzitto, CEO of Ti Europe, said the company will launch the new biaxially oriented PLA (BoPLA) films in the fourth quarter of this year. “We are putting substantial efforts into upgrading our production for the manufacturing of BoPLA films at our Italian site,” he remarked. The films are suitable for various packaging applications, such as fresh produce, bakery, dairy and confectionery, added Garzitto.
Mark Vergauwen, European commercial director at NatureWorks, said the partnership with Ti will help support the growth and acceptance of BoPLA films and drive the change to more sustainable packaging. NatureWorks’ PLA, branded “Ingeo”, is produced from 100% renewable resources and is biodegradable and compostable.
