Company founder Roman Mandelbaum passes away
Roman Mandelbaum, the founder and main shareholder of SwissPrimePack (Altstätten / Switzerland; www.swissprimepack.com), in early June passed away at the age of 93. Mandelbaum founded plastics packaging producer Bellaplast in 1956, and in 1979 moved the company’s headquarters from Germany to Switzerland. Bellaplast was merged with Albiplast in 2008, creating SwissPrimePack (see Plasteurope.com of 02.07.2008). The Mandelbaum family remains the company’s main shareholder.
SwissPrimePack manufactures packaging for the foodstuffs industry, with a focus on dairy products and ice cream as well as a range of plastic closure systems, alongside service packaging for vending machines, take-away and catering services. The group is capable of injection moulding, extrusion and thermoforming as well as finishing, and employs about 170 workers at its Swiss sites in Altstätten and Niederuzwil.
