Masterbatch and additives producer Sukano (Schindellegi / Switzerland; www.sukano.com) has launched a masterbatch for injection stretch blow-moulded (ISBM) PET bottles. The company says its new "mobility aid" masterbatch allows bottle manufacturers to run conveyor-belt systems and robots without the need for spray coatings, thereby keeping production running without interruption.
Sukano's new additive is provided as a solid masterbatch that can be blended with virgin or recycled PET during moulding or processing. According to the company, even at low concentrations, the masterbatch disperses consistently through the PET material, and this reduces its coefficient of friction (COF) and modifies surface texture with a microstructure. It is suitable for clear and coloured bottles, such as for personal care, household, cosmetics as well as food and beverage applications. The new masterbatch can be run on existing ISBM bottle production equipment without modification and helps eliminate the cost and cleaning requirements associated with spray coatings, which leave a waxy residue on bottles and packaging equipment that must be removed.
