“Sconapor” EPS grades introduced for packaging applications
Styron (Europe: Horgen / Switzerland; www.styron.com) has extended its EPS portfolio to include a series of “Sconapor” N EPS grades for packaging applications. Initially developed for thermal and acoustic insulation, the company has now extended the range of EPS beads through the introduction of “Sconapor” N-438, N-338, N-238 and N-138A grades that can be used to manufacture moulded foam parts for packaging applications.

The four grades offer different bead sizes to provide a range of packaging foam densities and have been developed for customers that want to use cost competitive, non-flame-retardant EPS for consumer electronics and appliances packaging. John Case, global marketing manager for packaging at Styron said that the grades had been developed in response to a requirement from customers for EPS grades for packaging being produced within the vicinity of their production sites.

Styron has embraced its customers’ request by launching “Sconapor” N EPS grades produced locally in Schkopau / Germany. He added that the migration of the consumer electronics and appliances industry to central and eastern Europe meant that the production facility was ideally placed to provide a solution to meet these changing needs.
