Styrenics Circular Solutions (SCS, Brussels / Belgium; www.styrenics-circular-solutions.com), the recycling initiative of international styrenics producers founded in late 2018, said its latest member is the Association of European Manufacturers of Expanded Polystyrene (Eumeps, Brussels; www.eumeps.org).
Eumeps, the European umbrella organisation for manufacturers of EPS mouldings and packaging, is said to include more than 1,000 member companies and 22 national EPS associations.
“The drive that the EPS industry has shown in contributing to the circularity of styrenics is impressive,” SCS Secretary General Jens Kathmann said. “We look forward to deepening teamwork with Eumeps across all of SCS’ activity, from collection and sorting to scaling up recycling technology.”

Calls for improvements to EU policymaking
SCS, Eumeps, PlasticsEurope – Europe’s association of resin makers – and more than 20 other European trade groups have asked for better processes to be used for the creation of laws and policies in the EU. In a statement, the 24 signatories offered a number of suggestions, including EU legislation that is based on and supported by evidence through impact assessments, sufficient time and resources for all steps in the decision-making process and for feedback, and moves to avoid disparate regulations across the trading bloc.
