STYRENICS CIRCULAR SOLUTIONS
Collaboration with PRE to offer reciprocal membership / Move aims to advance take-up of recycled PS

Two Brussels / Belgium-based groups, Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE www.plasticsrecyclers.eu) and industry initiative Styrenics Circular Solutions (SCS; www.styrenics-circular-solutions.com) said they are offering reciprocal membership to one another to accelerate market demand for recycled PS.
The organisations said the collaboration combines the network of over 11 SCS members from the styrenics value chain with PRE’s more than 140 members.
“This is a crucial new membership for SCS,” said Jens Kathmann, the group’s secretary-general. “Joining forces together with PRE, which represents the individual recyclers across Europe, will further accelerate the momentum that SCS has been building to create a strong market pull away from incineration and landfill towards significantly increased plastic-to-plastic recycling of PS.” He noted that building on the sortability and circularity of PS, the joint efforts will extend the closed loop for food contact recycling beyond bottles.
Styrenics producers Ineos Styrolution (Frankfurt / Germany; www.ineos-styrolution.com), Total (Paris / France; www.total.com), Trinseo (Berwyn, Pennsylvania / USA; www.trinseo.com) and Versalis (Milan / Italy; www.versalis.eni.com) signed an incorporation agreement in December 2018 that established SCS as a platform designed to include other styrenics players such as recyclers, converters and brand owners (see Plasteurope.com of 18.12.2018).
